This guide is for WriteTex on Windows devices.

Installation

WriteTex is available on the Microsoft Store. You can install it directly from there for the best experience and automatic updates.

Usage Guide

• Draw on the Canvas.
• Tap the AI button at the buttom right to send the drawing to the AI model.
• View the AI results in the markdown view, paste on seperate editor.
• Edit the results by clicking on the pencil icon.
• Delete a saved drawing by swiping left on the drawing in the saves list.
• Search saves by their content or time by typing in the search bar.

Custom API

• Explore Custom API to obtain your AI API settings.
• Configure the api settings at: ⚙️Settings - API Settings
  • API Endpoint: Enter the API base URL.
  • API Key: Enter your API key.
  • Model Name: Enter the model ID.

It is a know issue that the API endpoint must use version v1. Some providers use their custom version of the API endpoint, resulting in errors. For example, the API endpoint at https://api.openai.com/v1 should be configured as https://api.openai.com in the app settings. We are working on a fix in an upcoming release.

Sync from mobile device

The sync feature works if you have configured the PC IP Address in settings of your mobile device. It syncs your drawing and AI results from the mobile app to your mac or PC app.

1. Auto-Sync: On the finish of each AI request on your mobile app, your drawing and AI results will be automatically synced to your mac or PC app automatically. Your mac or PC's clipboard will also be updated with the latest AI results (LaTeX/markdown source).
2. Manual Sync: Upon pressing the Copy button in the top bar of your mobile device, only your AI results (LaTeX/markdown source) will be synced to your mac or PC's clipboard.

Sync to PC from mobile

In the PC version of WriteTex, go to ⚙️Settings - Clipboard and Sync - Current IP Address . Copy the IP address displayed on your PC to your mobile device at ⚙️Settings - Clipboard and Sync - PC IP Address. If there are multiple IP addresses displayed, you typically choose the one that starts with 192.168. or 10.0. . If no IP addresses are displayed, you might be disconnected from your local network. Check your network settings and ensure that WriteTex has access to your local network.

Firewall Configuration

WriteTex will request to access your local network upon first launch. Please grant access for the sync function to work. To manually configure the firewall, follow the steps below:
Go to: Control Panel - System and Security - Windows Defender Firewall. Choose the Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall option. Find writetex.exe in the list of apps and toggle on the Private and Public options.

Uninstall

Go to Windows Settings - Apps - Installed apps. Find WriteTex in the list of installed apps and click on Uninstall.
If you kept with the default installation path, your installation folder is located at:

C:\Users\{YourUsername}\AppData\Local\WriteTex

User data is stored at:

C:\Users\{YourUsername}\Documents\WriteTex

Keep the data folder if you want to perform an update. Remove both folders for a complete uninstall.

Update

Updates are handled automatically through the Microsoft Store. You can also manually check for updates in the Microsoft Store app.
